GZ Industries Limited Manufacturing Client

GZ Industries (GZI) was founded in 2006 and opened West Africa’s first can manufacturing plant in Agbara, Nigeria in 2010. The factory was commissioned in August 2010 to manufacture aluminium beverage cans for brewers and bottling companies in Nigeria and other West African countries. It reached capacity of 1.2 billion cans, per annum, in 2012. GZI’s 46,000 square metre factory is world-class, with state-of-the-art equipment sourced from Europe and the USA. GZI has since expanded its can operations to Aba, Nigeria and has successfully expanded across Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa since inception in 2006 thanks to the increasing demand for canned and bottled drinks in Africa.

Johannesburg became the home of one of Africa’s largest beverage can plants in 2016 as GZI and South Africa-based independent packaging company Golden Era Group teamed up to build a large-scale beverage can plant. The R1-billion joint venture Gayatri GZI Beverage Cans initially delivered 1.2 billion aluminium beverage cans a year from the second quarter of 2016, before eventually ramping up to produce 3.5 billion cans a year. The plant manufactures two-piece aluminium beverage cans in multiple sizes for customers within the country and all across Southern Africa.

GZ Industries also commissioned a new plant in Nairobi, Kenya in 2016. The Sultan Hamud canning plant which GZI started building in 2014 and was the first can manufacturing facility in Eastern Africa, supplies cans to all bottlers and brewers in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda, producing about 2.4 billion cans annually. Sultan Hamud is a small town located in Kasikeu division of Makueni County in Kenya. It lies on the main railway line of Kenya Railways between the coast at Mombasa and the national capital of Nairobi. GZI is backed by a strong shareholder group, which includes Standard Chartered Private Equity, the investment arm of Standard Chartered Bank. Other shareholders comprise Verod Capital, a leading investment firm based in Nigeria, and GZI’s founders.

In 2013, GZI was seeking a human resources management system that would help them meet their HR and payroll demands, which as one can imagine from the size of their cross-continental operations, must be huge. They needed a robust solution that could handle their workforce spread out all over the aluminium can manufacturing operations across Africa and at the same time, would not drain their financial resources.

After extensive research and due diligence on their part, GZ Industries chose Xceed365. Xceed365 features provided all of the tools GZI needed to fully manage its human resources. It also provided them at a much lower cost. GZI reported that Xceed365 more than met their human resources needs. They therefore deployed Xceed365 across the entire organization.
